Enjoy a relaxing day at a private residence on the 18th fairway of the famed Muirfield Village Golf Club. You will be shuttled from a parking lot to the front door of the house (cannot drive yourself to the house).

Tony Trippe… It is often said that knowledge is power, and that applied knowledge creates a competitive advantage, but where does that knowledge and insight come from? Come and hear a story about how FitBit could have anticipate the purchase of an active competitor by its main rival Jawbone, and how the gathering of intelligence dictated corporate strategy for both organizations as they battled for dominance in the personal fitness monitor space.
To let you in on the punch line, I looked at both companies in 2013, before the segment really exploded and recommended that both companies should buy patents in order to protect their businesses. A few weeks after I published my findings Jawbone bought one of the companies I suggested they should be looking at. The point would be less about patents per se, and more about how gathering intelligence on your business segment, regardless of the source can help you anticipate what your competitors are likely to do next, and allow you to be prepared to counter those moves.
