I built a Lego set with my seven-year-old daughter this weekend. We’ve had it sitting on her shelf in her room since she got it over a month ago for her birthday. I know she wanted to build it a few times since she received the gift but we had to put it off. School, sports, Girl Scouts, a myriad of reasons kept us from piecing it together.
Finally, late in the evening we began the process of building this overly complicated, pink and purple, shopping center where her small cast of figures could create, buy, and sell their goods. Hours later, and I mean HOURS later, I am sweating because it was hot in her room, she is yelling because the set keeps breaking on the carpet, and its way past her bedtime. My wife told us to wrap it up and we could finish in the morning but my daughter and I couldn’t stop. We were so close to finishing. Another hour later we locked in the last brick and the shops were ready to open. I looked at my daughter and told her that she could open up shop in the morning and kissed her good night. It occurred to me right then that my child just went through a microcosm of the small business process. Congratulations little one, you are an entrepreneur.
I am really excited to be a part of the Dublin Entrepreneurial Center as Sequent’s representative and that I have this space to bring the DEC tenants and the many supporters from the city of Dublin important content that will hopefully be a benefit to the entrepreneur turned employer and the small business owners in the area. Like my daughter’s Lego set, the entrepreneur starts with a passion for their undertaking. You put in tireless hours before yielding results and then, before you know it, you start growing. The key to successful growth is to protect your asset. At Sequent we provide that protection though Human Capital Management. We work to release the administrative burden that takes up the entrepreneur’s time energy, and resources. We keep small business in compliance with the ever changing regulatory world in which we live which can help limit employer liability. This platform allows me to bring you articles and thoughts from real subject matter experts that can positively affect your business. That Said, I present to you a best practices piece that might help the entrepreneur who is bringing on their first temporary employee. I hope it is helpful to you and your business.

Additionally, Sequent provides three mission critical technology applications, all which are “Best of Breed” to serve as the nucleus in delivering service to and supporting the employees of the business.
